During the seaon time flies by. So many things to do, so little time to be merry as we want to have it so very cosy during the holidays. And thanks to all the nice advent calendars for us sewists and embroiderers we are daily inspired to even more decorations and presents.

After having visited so many sights yesterday the children wish for some shopping today. So we decide to walk the avenue of liberty (pt. Avenida da Liberdade) nearby. Even though the trees are almost leafless it is beautiful to walk beneath them and to look at all the different statues dedicated to liberty.

It’s the first day starting with sunshine – good for visiting two world culture heritage places: the Jerónimos Monastery (pt. Mosteiro dos Jeronimos) and the tower of Belém (pt. Torre des Belém). Both buildings had survived the big earthquake of 1755. Nevertheless the fortified lighthouse is only a replica build in 1846 as the original was destroyed by Napoleon’s invasion.

The view from our flat shows the elevator de Santa Justa sehen, also called Elevador do Carmo was build in 1902 and is 45m high. From there it is said that you have a wonderful view to the castle San Jose, so we decide to have a look today.
