Of Quilting I heard the first time when I watched 1995 the filme „An American Quilt“ with the young Winona Ryder, „Wow“, I thought then, „how much work that is, I could never done it“. Therefore I asked my dear husband, to buy a quilt for our bed, when we saw it at a market on Bali (picture of the day). Never had I thought that I would someday start to quilt myself.
To quilt by hand I do not have the time but with my embroidery and sewing machine I have already achieved something: a wallhangig as a remembrance of our Africa journey, a seasonal wall hanging in art-nouveau style and another in a romantic style, a quilted tablerunner, my esoteric wall-hanging project and my sew-along-project with the quilt-as-you-go-technique.
In my online quilting groups I have now learned that since 1991 the third Saturday in March in America is celebrated as national quilting day in the quilting month March. This annual day was created by the National Quilting Association to connect quilters and the shops that support them. Though that organisation ceased to excist in 2015 after its 46 years of preserving the tradition the day is still celebrated of quilters in America and throughout the world.
I myself have now been infected with the love for patchwork and quilting and do have a lot of project ideas. Therefore I marked next year quilting day which will be on the 21th of March already in my calendar to celebrate it together with the beginning of spring. How about you?
